The Visibility Doctrine™ — Doctrine 004: Most Surprises Are Accumulated Blind Spots

The Visibility Doctrine™

Book I — Visibility Begins Before You Are Seen

Doctrine 004

Most surprises

are accumulated blind spots.

A surprise feels sudden only to the person who wasn't paying attention. To everyone else, it was building — quietly, in increments too small to individually alarm anyone.

Blind spots don't form all at once. They accumulate — one dismissed anomaly at a time, one "unusual, but probably nothing" at a time, until the accumulation itself becomes the risk.

What gets called a surprise is rarely new information. It is old information, finally forced into view by its own accumulated weight.

Recognition

A true surprise is rare. What's common is a blind spot that grew large enough to become undeniable.

Canonical Lines

  • Most surprises are accumulated blind spots.
  • A blind spot doesn't form all at once.
  • What gets called a surprise is usually old information, finally undeniable.
