GVB Leadership Habits™ · Lesson 3
Alignment & Execution — Turning Direction Into Movement
Alignment is the invisible engine of performance. When people know how their work fits, execution feels cleaner, faster, and less emotional.
Why aligned teams feel lighter
Misalignment doesn’t always look like conflict. It often looks like people working hard in different directions. These habits bring everyone back to the same page.
Today’s alignment habits
- Start with the business question before discussing numbers, slides, or tools.
- Decide in public — clearly state: “Here’s the decision, here’s why, and here’s what changes.”
- Remove one friction point from a workflow, meeting, or approval chain.
- Use a 3-point check-in: What changed? What stayed the same? What is now most important?
- Close the loop proactively with one stakeholder who’s waiting on feedback from you.
- Share tomorrow’s top three priorities with your direct reports.
Alignment is not a quarterly activity. It’s a daily leadership habit.
Reflection prompt
Where did rework, confusion, or repeat conversations show up last week? Which habit above would have reduced that waste?
