A Better Question
How do you know what's actually making things work?
Things can be moving. Targets can be met. Problems can be solved. People can know what to do.
That tells you something is working. It does not necessarily tell you what.

The Difference
Results are visible.
Causes are not always visible.
Everything can look fine.
When something works for long enough, we naturally begin to trust the result.
Work gets done. Decisions happen. Problems are resolved. Progress continues.
What is harder to see is every condition producing that result.
The process may be carrying it. The people may be carrying it. Experience may be filling gaps. Relationships may be doing work that structure does not.
One person may quietly be holding several things together.
Or the real mechanism may be something nobody has noticed yet.
A useful distinction
Visible results are not the same as visible causes.

What do you think is actually making it work?
Start With A Hypothesis
Which explanation feels closest?
Choose one. You are not being scored.
What evidence would prove it?
Not what you believe.
What would you need to observe to know that your explanation is actually responsible for the result?
Three Ways To Learn More
Remove. Change. Repeat.
A hypothesis becomes more useful when reality can challenge it.
Temporarily remove something you believe is critical. What changes?
Change one important condition. Does the result survive?
Can the result be reproduced without relying on the same circumstances?
The risk
If you don't know what is making something work, you also don't know what might make it stop.
There Is A Larger Question
Can you see the conditions producing the result?
Knowing whether something works is useful.
Knowing what is producing the result is different.
It requires being able to notice signals, understand what they mean, make what matters visible, respond structurally, and preserve what works as conditions change.
